Wooden Nickel Golf Tournament for United Way Sets a New Fundraising Record

The Annual Wooden Nickel 4-Person Golf Tournament to benefit the United Way of Northeast Missouri set a new fundraising record on Friday, July 12th at the Kirksville Country Club (KCC).

According to the United Way President, Keaton Wagner, over $25,000 was raised.  “All of us on the UW Board of Directors are very happy with the absolute success of yesterday’s tournament.   “We owe a debt of gratitude to Judy and Dan Vogt and Brain and Jen Ray owners of the Wooden Nickel who annually put on the Tournament,” he added.

Flight financial sponsors included: Champ Flight Wooden Nickel, A Flight Equity Bank, and B Flight Grossnickle Insurance.  “These three businesses that stepped up to sponsor prize payouts for each flight, along with the  45 businesses that sponsored holes at the Tournament and 42 teams who played in the tournament have made a giant commitment to the work of our United Way of Northeast Missouri and the ten agencies we support,” Wagner said.                                                                            

Winners of the tournament were Champ Flight sponsored by Wooden Nickel 1st Lovegreen Motors, 2d Team Tilman. .  A Flight sponsored by Equity Bank: 1st CR Miller Jewelers, 2nd Team Mills, and Third Car Medic.  B Flight sponsored by Grossnickle Insurance 1st Team Theobald, 2nd Team Covington, and Third Northeast Regional Medical Center.

Individual winners were:    Tyler Miller won Closest to the Pin on Hole 3 sponsored by Equity Bank.  Sam Smith was the closest to the Pin on Hole 17 sponsored by Wooden Nickel. Rick Riley won Men’s Longest Drive on Hole 8 sponsored by Hightower Wholesale.  Newman Farms won Women’s Longest Drive on Hole 16. Chase Brenizer won the longest Putt on Hole #1, receiving an Oliver's Gift Card.  Team Killday won four free golf lessons from Olivers for coming in last in the Tournament.

Wooden Nickel set up a food tent with complimentary Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Hot dogs, and bottled water at Hole 14 for the golfers. Also, expressions of gratitude went out to Clint Fitzpatrick, KCC golf professional, and his staff for helping the tournament run so smoothly.

United Way agencies for which the organization provides funding during the year include Hospice of Northeast Missouri, Salvation Army, Community Child Development Center, Macon Diversified Industries, RSVP, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, YMCA, Adair County 4 H Council, NEMO Senior Services.
